New flashes, a sudden increase in floaters, a shadow or curtain, or sudden loss of vision need urgent assessment.
Phone the clinic on 02 9424 9999 to discuss urgent or same-day assessment rather than sending the referral alone. If the clinic is closed or the patient cannot be assessed promptly, direct them to the nearest emergency department.

Referrals and patient information are handled by Vision Eye Institute.
Vision Eye Institute arranges the appointment and confirms it with the patient. Findings and plans are communicated back to you after the consultation, so that everyone involved in the patient’s care is working from the same picture. For anything urgent, phone the clinic.

Include the reason for referral, symptoms and onset, visual acuity, relevant ocular and medical history, medication, previous procedures and available imaging. Indicate any concern about urgency and call the clinic to discuss it.
